Austin City Limits Festival

The Austin City Limits (ACLMusic Festival is an annual music festival which is held in the end of annual summer. It is organized in Zilker Park in Austin Texas in weekends. It is inspired by the PBS concert series of the same name, the festival is produced by Austin-based company C3 Presents, which also produces Lollapalooza. The reputation of the ACL television show helps in contributing to the success of the festival.

The ACL Music Festival has eight stages where musical groups including rock,  indie,  country,  folk,  electronic  and hip hop perform for fans. Approximately 450,000 people attend the festival each year. In addition to the music performances, there are food and drinks, an art market, a kids area for families, and other activities for attendees.

Founded in 2002, the festival began as a one-weekend event and remained as such through the 2012 date. On August 16, 2012, Austin City Council members voted unanimously to allow the Austin City Limits Music Festival to expand to two consecutive weekends beginning in 2013

Austin Eats

Austin is known for its food. Austin Eats is the name of the festival food court that was modeled after the Jazz Fest in New Orleans. With gluten-free and vegetarian options, this food is far from funnel cakes and turkey legs. Restaurants featured include Torchy’s Tacos, Stubbs B-B-Q, and Amy’s Ice Creams, all local Austin favorites. All vendors accept cash and there are ATMs located around the facility. Recycling bins are provided to dispose of their food wastes.

A variety of snacks is available to choose at ACL Fest:-

SnacksBrussels sprout salad from East Side KingThis salad of crunch Brussels sprouts will fill you up but won’t slow you down. It's the perfect light, "healthy" snack to keep you movin' and groovin'.

Pizza rolls from Austin's Pizza Each roll is the equivalent to a slice a pizza (do with that information what you will), but you will find that it is shamefully easy to toss back four in one sitting, especially if ranch dressing is involved. With the option of pepperoni or veggie stuffed with spinach and mushroom, the whole crew can be satisfied with a stop at Austin's Pizza.

Pork belly bao buns from East Side KingThe perfectly cooked pork belly that sits between these bao buns falls apart with one bite, which, coincidentally, is also how long it takes to eat one.

Truffle mac and cheese from Lonesome DoveChef Tim Love's team will be onsite serving up bites from the ranch-inspired kitchen. The creamy truffle cheese is sauced over fluffy grains of orzo — decadent.

MealsBrisket nachos from the Salt LickOnly served at ACL Fest, these nachos can be a meal of their own. The Salt Lick trucks in famous brisket and crumbles it on top of crunchy tortilla chips which are then smothered in thick queso blanco. Pro tip: Top with jalapeƱos to experience flavor nirvana.

Cheeseburger from P. Terry'sWith all-natural beef and locally sourced produce, this burger will give you the fuel you need for your next concert. The line usually moves pretty fast, so a burger can be a quick grab if you're short on time.

Kimchi fries from Chi'LantroThere's a reason these kimchi fries are legendary: They are covered with caramelized kimchi, sprinkled with both cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, topped with the protein of your choice, doused in their magic sauce and Sriracha, and garnished with cilantro. The result is a flavor explosion in your mouth that is well worth the wait.

Shrimp and avocado cone from the Mighty ConeMighty Cone started at ACL Fest and has become a tradition for many festivalgoers. The crunchy and spicy shrimp and avocado cone will have you dancing along to the music in the food court.

Sweet tooth cravingsBananarchyGrab an ethically sourced, frozen banana that's been dunked in melted chocolate and sprinkled with the toppings of your choice. This dessert is the one to wait in line for.

GoodPopA lighter option is a GoodPop popsicle. This local company will have an assortment of flavors onsite, like cold brew coffee, watermelon agave, and hibiscus mint. Pro tip: Dropping a GoodPop into a bubbly beverage is a great mixer idea.

Skull & CakebonesThere are sweet options available for vegans too. In additional to the usual cupcakes, this vegan bakery is whipping up chicken and waffles just for ACL Fest.

Tiff's TreatsThe Tiffwich is a dessert sandwich served with Tiff's warm, soft cookies and a dollop ice cream in between.

SipsLemonade from Shade Tree LemonadeOrganic, fresh-squeezed lemonade is what everyone needs at a hot, Texas music festival. It's sweet and tart and will give you the zing of energy you need to power through the rest of the day.

Root beer from Main Root Beverages This Austin-made root beer is about as good as root beer gets. Grab one if your spicy Mighty Cone has a little too much heat to handle.

Watermelon agua fresca from JuiceLandBeat dehydration by sipping on a watermelon agua fresca. It's cool, refreshing, and served in a huge cup.

Barton Springs Beer HallThere's more than just Miller Lite at ACL Fest. The beer hall is where to go to find craft beers. Since the festival coincides with both NCAA and NFL games, catch up on the scores on the jumbo screen while drinking from a selection of 16 craft beers.

Wine DownBeer lovers have the beer hall, and now the wine lovers have a wine bar. The new Wine Down on the south side of Zilker Park is where you can go to enjoy fine wine and music. A local wine-based cocktail in a can, Mighty Swell, will also be available.

ACL Cares
Visitors are given unique opportunities to give back to the community during their time at the festival. ACL Cares is a section of the festival that supports good causes and encourages support from the thousands of attendees of the festival. Organizations like KLRU and The Nature Conservancy have been involved in past years. ACL Cares aims to make a difference in the local Austin community and beyond.
Certain organizations are HeadCount, United Way for Greater Austin, Austin Music Foundation, Keep Austin Beautiful, and many others.

ACL Art Market

The local people & artists have a unique creative and business opportunity to showcase their talent at the ACL Art Market. This section of the festival aims to support local artists as well as give the visitors to the festival the opportunity to walk away from the festival with more than a T-shirt. The market is located in the center of Zilker Park and all booths are open throughout the duration of the festival.

Relationship to television series

The famous historic Austin City Limits television series focused on Texas singer/songwriters, country and folk performers, and instrument specialists. That has changed as the award-winning television series which now resembles the Festival lineup and spotlights artists of every musical genre from rhythm and blues to rock, jazz, and alternative. The festival is now an established destination, it brings major bands to the television show that might not otherwise have made the trip. In past years, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket, Wilco and The National have all performed for both the festival and the show.

Navratri Festival - India

NAVRATRI - INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

This article is more helpful to do worship (Puja) in short time for people who are religious and having tight schedule.

Introduction:-

The most important Navratri in a year is the Sharadiya Navratri which begins on the first day of the bright half of Ashvin or Ashwayuja (September-October) as per Hindu calendar. The most important is the
Chaitra Navratri or the Navaratri in March-April. This is also known as Vasant Navratri or Ram Navaratri.

The other two Navratris are Magh Navratri (January – February) and Ashad Navratri (June – July). These two Navratris are known as Gupt Navratris and are mainly observed only in certain regions of North India.
Thus there are four important Navratris in a year in a Hindu lunar calendar.

Story of Navratri / Durga Pooja

Durga Saptsati is a book in which Devimahatmya is recited during the Navaratri and Durga Pooja. It symbolized the victory of good over evil.
Devi-Mahatyma extols the greatness of Durga in 700 hymns grouped into 537 sections and therefore it is also known as Durga Sapta Sati. It details the exploits of the goddess in her three major forms: Kali, Lakshmi and Saraswati, representing the three fold energy: strength, wealth and wisdom. The most famous episode is Durga killing Mahishasur.

Birth of Mahishasur

Legend has it that two sons of Danu called Rambha and Karambha performed penances to gain more powers. Rambha performed the austerities by standing amidst five ritual fires called Panchagni and Karambha by standing in neck-deep in water.

Indra, the lord of the gods, felt threatened by such intense austerities and took the form of a crocodile and killed Karambha. Rambha, who came to know about his brother’s death, increased the intensity of his austerities and won several boons from gods like great brilliance, beauty, invincibility in war. Most importantly, the boon that he will not be killed by humans or Gods or Asuras (demons).

After receiving the boon, he was roaming in the garden of Yaksha and there he fell in love with a female-buffalo. To express his love Rambha took the form of a male-buffalo and copulated with the she-buffalo. But soon a real male buffalo discovered Rambha in the garden and killed him.

Rambha’s inflated ego made him not to ask the boon of invincibility from animals. And an animal happened to be the reason for his death.

The female-buffalo, who was pregnant, decided to kill herself in the funeral pyre of Rambha. She jumped into the pyre and from the pyre sprang up a mighty asura (demon) with the head of a buffalo and human body. This was Mahishasur.

Mahishasur Defeats Gods
Mahishasur defeated the gods and the demons. He attacked the heaven and captured it and made ‘devas’ his slaves. He proclaimed that he is now Indra – the lord of the gods. The gods led by Brahma approached Vishnu and Shiva and appraised them of the situation.

Birth of Goddess Durga

The actions of Mahishasur caused intense anger in the Trimurtis. The anger emerging out of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva combined to the take the shape of a terrible form and this was Durga (Goddess).

It is said that the flames of fire that gushed out of the eyes of the Trimurtis – Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva – formed a mountain, brilliant like a million suns. Out of this mountain, Durga took shape as the Goddess, more powerful than all the gods.

Goddess Durga kills Mahishasur

When the goddess was seen by Mahishasur, he fell in love with her and sought to marry her. The goddess promised to marry him, if he defeated her in the battle. A terrible combat ensued and continued for nine days. Finally, Durga assumed the terrifying form of Chandika and pinned Mahishasur down with her foot and pierced his neck with her spear and she cut his head off with her sword.

The legend about the killing of Mahishasur is found in many Puranas and therefore there are slight variations in the story. The story is also found in Vamana Purana, Varaha Purana, Shiva Purana, Skanda Purana, Devi Bhagavatam and Kalika Purana.

5.  Many people fast during the 9 days wherein they eat proper food only one time in the day and are allowed to eat on Falhaari Aahar (Fasting food  e.g fruits, milk ) during the other times. Some people fast first day and last day of Navratri also.

6. On the last day, devotees do Havan (putting drops of ghee into fire) with Mantra of Goddess Durga  as given below :-

[Mantras to the goddess Durga are famous in Hinduism and are very effective for creating positive change in your life.]

Devotees invite 9 girls (below 10 years) and wash their feet one by one and make them sit with respect. They are symbolic of 9 forms of Goddess. Devotees put round circle of roli on their forehead and offer them nice pure vegetarian food in 9 plates for each of them . In the last devotees give them gifts (money or anything). After finishing Pooja devotees break coconut which was kept on Kalash and distribute it among people. This festival teaches us how to love and respect human beings also.
